Save or Splurge: Amsterdam

1 May 2009 (nytimes.com)

SLEEP Assuming that Amsterdam’s rollicking hostel scene isn’t for you, the best bets for cheap accommodation are mostly found outside the old city center. Hotel Linda (Stadhouderskade 130; 31-20-673-8739; www.hotellinda.nl) is a pleasant spot in the charming Pijp neighborhood. It’s convenient (a number of tram lines are a short walk away) and most of the hotel’s 40 rooms are more spacious than you’d expect. (As with most buildings on Amsterdam’s canals, the stairs are comically steep.) Cost: Prices for a double room start at 150 euros on weekends, but on weekdays are as low as 75 euros.

Sightseeing And Things To Do In Jamaica

If you are planning a trip to Jamaica, you will plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and indulging in both water and land activities. There are a wide range of accommodation options available from hotels to all-inclusive resorts to Jamaica villas, cottages and apartments to suit all tastes and budgets. Where you stay will make all the difference to not only your trip but also to your pocket. Hotels are comfortable but they are provide a highly impersonal and formal environment and so if you want get away from it all, they might not prove to be the right choice. Then there are the all-inclusive resorts which can be pretty expensive because you have to buy the entire package. Secondly, your choices of what to see and do would be limited to what the all-inclusive resort provides. Of course, you have the freedom to do your own thing but it will cost you extra.

How To Prepare for a Vacation

Think about where it is you want to go. If you can’t decide ask your friends to recommend a vacation spot that is affordable, safe, clean, courteous, fun, and with fantastic amenities and great food.

Keep it real. Nowadays, it’s hard to even consider a trip outside of the country because of the cost involved. There are even places in the country that you cannot simply afford. These realities should not prevent you from taking a vacation but it will wake you up to the fact that you have to plan your vacation smartly. Spend some time in a place that offers bed-and-breakfast inns, scenic spots, and museums.

Choose dates covering the off-peak season. You’ll get cheaper and more economical rates.

The Ultimate Family Rafting Adventure...

Vacation time holds real dilemmas for parents. Family trips ideally should be fun for siblings of all ages, somewhat restful for parents, great times for reconnecting after a fast paced year packed with school, homework and extracurricular activities, and at its best, educational and memory making.

Resorts and cruises where children go one way and parents go another leave families feeling, like they have taken separate vacations. Theme parks are exhausting for moms and dads trying to get each child to age appropriate rides.

Big Fish 2000 Restaurant

Big Fish on Friday's after 11PM is certianly a fun place to end the night. Beautiful people in late 20s through late 30s go there to dance, have drinks and have fun. However I tried the food once and it sucked. The calamari had absolutely no taste. When I said that to the waiter he said, smiling, Welcome to Big Fish! He did not want to be rude at all, I know what he meant: I can not do anything , this is our food, either you (or me) like it or not. So I did not had a bad day. It was the standard. I had a hot date so did not want to bother but certianly I am not going back to the restaurant anymore. The bar is OK ONLY on Fridays. On Saturdays there is no party so don't bother and go somewhere else.

Big Fish 2000 Restaurant

Went to Big Fish on a Sunday night. Made reservations weeks in advance, but was hastily placed at awful table by bumbling manager and waiter (who were fighting in another language - Italian?) even though there were plenty of good seats open by the river. After our 3rd complaint, we were finally moved to table WAY at the end of row of seats where we were totally forgotten and had to walk back into restaurant for bread, then again for drinks, the again for dessert menu then again for check - it was unbelievable. View was very nice, but for the out-of-the-way location and the idiotic service, if you want to see the river, go on your own, take a stroll... then go to eat a good restaurant. The staff was THAT bad

AWESOME LOCATION IN MIAMI RIVER OWNERSHIP CHANGED FROM SPANISH TO ITALIAN HANDS.

WE HAVE BEEN THREE TIMES THERE. GRILLED FISH WAS DRY AND OVERCOOKED, CERNIA MEDIETERRANEA (SNAPPER IN SHIPM SAUCE) WAS EXCELLENT, SALMON IS DEEP FROZEN AND TASTELESS. THE WHOLE PLACE NEEDS A MAKE UP.
