Prophet Tour Blade Iron

A common perception among golfers is that a blade style iron is hard to hit. After all, the efforts of the late Karsten Solheim of Ping didn't go unnoticed. He produced an iron with a deep cavity and immediately the concept of perimeter weighting was born. This was so successful that every manufacturer followed suit and to this day the vast majority of clubs are a cavity back design which make the game a little easier to for you and me to enjoy.

The European Open

3 June 2009 (europeantour.com)

Christian Cévaër, the World Number 449 and without a top 30 finish in his last 15 tournaments, overcame a star-studded field and one of the toughest holes in golf to win The European Open. After an amazing weekend which saw no fewer than 45 changes of the lead, the 39 year old, whose only previous European Tour victory was the 2004 Open de España, beat England's Steve Webster, Scot Gary Orr and Spaniard Alvaro Quiros by a shot. His winning total of 281, seven under par, was 13 strokes more than Ross Fisher took on the same The London Golf Club course last year - and his 74 was the highest last round by a winner all season. But while Webster and Quiros both became more victims of the 471 yard last when tied for the lead - both carved their drives into the crowd, with Quiros hitting spectators with his first and second shots - Cévaër kept his nerve.

Ben Crane Leads Charge of the Little Known at the Players Championship

8 May 2009 (nytimes.com)

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Ben Crane led a surprising first-round assault on par at the T.P.C. Sawgrass in the Players Championship on Thursday, taking advantage of benign conditions and a generous setup to shoot a seven-under-par 65 that was one stroke better than the threesome of John Mallinger, Richard S. Johnson and Alex Cejka, and two strokes clear of a group of nine tied at 67.

The low scoring began early in the day on a course softened by rain from thunderstorms that swept through the area at about midnight. Making the most of the party atmosphere were some players who were not household names: Mallinger, 29, has not finished higher than third in two and a half seasons on the tour; Cejka, 38, of the Czech Republic, had two wins on the tour at tournaments that no longer exist, in 2003 and 2004; Johnson, 32, of Sweden, won last year in Milwaukee and has missed two cuts in three Players appearances.

Masters: Campbell's roaring start gives him lead

10 April 2009 (cnn.com)

(CNN) -- American Chad Campbell has a one-shot lead over countrymen Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan after launching the best opening birdie salvo seen at the tournament. Campbell hit five birdies over the opening five holes to leap up the leaderboard and looked on target to equal or better the course record of 65 -- nine under par -- before bogeying the final two holes. His opening run was one better than Ken Venturi's four-birdie start in 1956.

As New Generation Rises at Masters, Woods Represents Old Guard

9 April 2009 (nytimes.com)

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The road to victory in the Masters will meet at the intersection of Tradition and Teen Nation, a crossroads that will yield some key indicators about what the future holds — both for golf’s annual rite of spring and for the game itself. Competitors in this Masters, which starts Thursday, include 17-year-old Ryo Ishikawa and 73-year-old Gary Player, and the legitimate contenders include 19-year-old Rory McIlroy and 54-year-old Greg Norman. Regardless of whether Tiger Woods wins his fifth green jacket or Phil Mickelson takes his third or Padraig Harrington wins his third straight major championship — or even if Norman can pull off a Masters miracle — the Masters and Augusta National are on the verge of going new wave. Just ask the chairman.

Woods finds his form at Bay Hill

27 march 2009 (bbc.co.uk)

Tiger Woods shot a first-round 68 to finish three shots off the lead after his first round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando. Woods, playing in his third tournament of the year following his return to action after knee surgery, shot four consecutive birdies on the back nine. Playing partner Padraig Harrington finished on level par after carding three birdies and three bogeys. Jason Gore leads at five under, one clear of Tim Herron and Jeff Overton. Gore birdied three of his last four holes, finishing on the par-4 ninth and putted just 24 times during his round. Woods, who went into the tournament having tied for ninth place at Doral in the WGC-CA Championship two weeks ago, also took 24 putts. He chipped in from 33 yards at the first but shot a double-bogey seven at the sixth and scrambled par after poor tee shots at the eighth and ninth.

Golf Equipment

The basics of golf instruction are that in order to play the game a player needs basic equipment. That golf equipment includes golf clubs and bag, golf balls, and tees. Generally the golf clubs consist of a couple of drivers, irons and a putter.

The driver is generally used on par 4 and par 5 holes where distance is required. The contact portion of the driver is flat in nature. The irons are numbered from two to nine with the contact area varying at different angles. The nine irons are designed with the greatest angle.

Golf instruction also requires standardization. Therefore, the golf ball must weigh 1.62 ounces, be circular in shape and be no larger than 1.68 inches in diameter. Generally, the balls are marked with a brand name and number so that there is no confusion as to which player is playing which ball.

Get the Perfect Golf Swing

If you've ever dreamed of wearing that iconic yellow blazer, or even if you just want to achieve your dream of scoring under par for once on the golf course, you'll definitely need to work on your golf swing.
It is impossible to truly appreciate the game of golf unless your swing is top notch. Golfers who aren't able to swing consistently spend much more energy in frustration than they do in actually playing the game. Your swing is also important if you play socially, because you don't want to keep your tee mates waiting while you ineffectually swing at the ball.

5 Easy Steps To Replacing Your Golf Grips

Replacing your golf grips is like servicing your car; you must do it on a very routine basis to keep them in top working order. We suggest changing your grips at least once a season, maybe even twice depending on where you live and how much you play.

People think that you must have your grips replaced professionally. This is incorrect because it can get costly. Actually replacing your own golf club grips is a really simple job. You will learn a lot about your clubs and save you some money.

Luke Donald - The Next Big Thing?

Much has been talked about Luke Donald's potential. After a brilliant amateur career he turned professional in 2001 and quickly adapted to life on tour. Even though Donald chose to play on the US PGA Tour, English golf fans soon identified Donald as one of their great hopes. He has subsequently coped well with this expectation, although as yet he has not taken the golf world by storm. However, there is every reason to suspect that Donald is on the verge of greatness. And here's why.
